Ladywood Road, Birmingham
Working closely with the client and principal contractor, the brief was to design a curved concrete stair & landing. In contrast during the design consultation, our team felt that a cantilevered natural solid stone staircase would bring both simplicity and elegance to the design. In addition, creating a better flow for the size and shape of the hallway.
We presented our designs along with several stone choices to the client for their comments. The current stair design was chosen along with a Moleanos limestone. Although more difficult, we designed the first and second steps to be carved from one piece of stone to give a seamless look at the base of the stair soffit. This added complications with only a small door opening to navigate through as the first piece of stone weighed approx. 1.7 Ton. True to form Iconic stairs completed the full stone stair and landing installation in under 4 days.
The balustrade was hand forged and completed with a bronze finish and luxurious French polished timber handrail to accentuate the stairs. All agreed the overall impression is that of timelessness and quality.
